Blog

Hi Nuffnangers,

Last stretch before the winter holidays! We hope that you have some exciting things planned with family and friends over the break; on our side Arya and I are flying home over the weekend and will be closing the office from Monday Dec. 21st to Friday Jan. 1st included. This last month was a very busy one between campaigns, community catch-ups, recruitment and of course, our annual Winter Workshop for bloggers!

If you followed along, you’ll know that we hosted the event at our new office space on Borough High Street and this year we focused on content, growth, and community strategies for the platforms around your blog, specifically vlogging on YouTube, podcasting, Instagram and Steller.

Nuffnang Bloggers Workshop 2

We’re so proud of our speakers this year; we had invited Jess from Love and London, Kate from A Playful Day and Sara from Me and Orla and they all did an amazing job in delivering inspiring presentations on their creative journeys, the successes and challenges that have met them along the way, and what they are planning and predicting for the future.

Jess, Kate and Sara generously shared a wealth of practical tips with us attendees and we learned a lot on Saturday: how to get started with video-blogging and podcasting, how to leverage our existing community of readers and followers, how to repurpose our content and make it evergreen, how to find and bring back new readers to our blogs, and just generally how to create successful shareable content on any of the platforms in question to grow our audiences and reach.

We love organising this workshop every year because it’s a great opportunity to come together and network offline, but also because we think it’s really important to share our collective knowledge and celebrate the success of publishers and influencers from the community who have taken their blogs from a hobby to a full-time job over the last couple of years.

I know that many of you left the event on the day feeling inspired and challenged, and that you have since then been thinking more strategically about your blogs and how to take them to the next level. Thank you for all your great feedback on Twitter around the #NNworkshop hashtag, your DMs and emails – we love hearing your thoughts and your plans for the future. If you weren’t there on the day and are keen to learn more about some of the tips we learned, Aby from You Baby Me Mummy kindly wrote a great recap on her blog, do have a look.

Blogosphere Magazine - Nuffnang Bloggers Workshop 3

A big thank you to everyone who supported the workshop this year: Little Miracles for keeping us hydrated with their delicious organic teas and juices, Dum Dum Donutterie for the yummy sweet treats, Blogosphere Magazine who made a copy available for every attendee to take home (they have a Christmas bundle offer at the moment – check it out), and of course the team at The Office Group for letting us use the conference room and the kitchen/lounge of our building on the weekend; it was a great event space to host the workshop in.

Whether you grabbed a ticket to the workshop this year, gave us a shout-out or a retweet on social media, shared the link to our Eventbrite page with a friend who might be interested in coming or just sent us positive vibes on the day, we want to thank you all for your support – this enthusiasm is what makes us look forward to organising more initiatives next year.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and see you in 2016!

Hi Nuffnangers,

Today we are sharing with you a round-up of our recent foodie meet-up at Sushino En, an authentic Japanese restaurant in Whitechapel, London. As you know, we try to have a community catch-up every month and what better way is there to spend a cold Saturday afternoon than to hang out with fellow bloggers anyway?

We were absolutely spoiled on the day and the restaurant treated us to a veritable feast so we could sample lots of their signature dishes. Hop on over to the posts below to read what the bloggers thought and Sushino En is definitely one to visit if you are in East London. The menu is exhaustive and they have some fantastically affordable options like bento boxes and lunch sets – you can have a peek at the menu on this page, and follow them on social via Twitter and Facebook.

Emma from Bloomzy

“Whereas I do enjoy discovering new cuisines, there’s one I always go back to – Japanese. A cute restaurant tucked away in the heart of Whitechapel, Sushino En serves up a variety of Japanese dishes. We were sat at a sunken table (horigotatsu), which I always find super comfortable. After everyone had arrived we ordered a bottle of plum wine (umeshu) – my favourite Japanese tipple. Conversation flowed as the first round of food was brought to the table…”

VA from Chopstick Panorama

“The interior is minimal, but warm and cosy thanks to the wooden furniture. I loved how they projected Ghibli movies onto the wall or have Polaroids of guests on another, gives it a really homey feeling. We got to try a great range of their food, from classic seaweed salad to unique sushi combinations. My favourite dishes were the Buta Kakuni/Japanese Braised Pork Belly for its sweet and savoury deliciousness as well as the Agedashi Tofu that was beautifully soft and subtle in flavour. Whatever sauce the tofu came in, I loved it.…”

Ioan from Secret Temple

“It felt a bit like the Witch’s cottage in Hansel and Gretel: from buta no kakuni (pork belly), to agedashi tofu, sashimi, sushi rolls, tempura, the food just kept pilling up. It felt appropriate that at the time they were screening Spirited Away. Highlights of the meals include the agedashi tofu – great texture, slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The tempura was also excellent, still warm and the batter was crisp and fresh…”

Amanda from Rhyme and Ribbons

“I had an amazing lunch this weekend with Nuffnang at Sushinoen. The people were great and the afternoon was superb. Out of everything I tried I probably ate the most of the fried tofu. It soaked up so much flavour and was so wonderfully salty. Basically, everything that I love about halloumi. Then there was shumai, a Japanese style dim sum with prawn. Then came both a white tuna carpaccio and beef tataki. There was seared tuna & salmon on California roll and a prawn tempura on California roll. They were very lightly battered, and exceedingly delicious…”

Em from Catch 52

“Then came a massive sushi platter containing sushi rolls bravo duo (seared tuna & salmon on California roll) and spider (prawn tempura on California roll). I enjoyed all of it. I like to see a lot going on in my sushi rolls, the more the fish better! Now since we physically didn’t have any space for more food, we got chicken yakisoba in takeaway boxes. Eating it the next day on my lazy Sunday, still in PJs, tasted just as good. For desserts we had mochi and matcha ice cream. I’d definitely recommend Sushinoen and would return there myself. You don’t have to pay silly prices for good food…”

Sara from Hello the Mushroom

“We were supposed to also have had the Sukyaki hot pot but we got to the point that we couldn’t take any more food, no matter how delicious it was. The meal was finished with some mochi and a scoop of matcha ice cream. My favourite! I love going out for meals with cool bloggers like this, the company is great and I don’t feel bad or obnoxious for taking photos of the food all the time!…”

Hi Nuffnangers,Today we are very excited to announce that the countdown to our Annual Winter Workshop for bloggers has officially started. In two short weeks, we will be holding this year’s #NNworkshop at our new stylish office space on 201 Borough High Street and we’re very excited for this last catch-up together before 2016.

The workshop is always very popular with the community and we have a limited number of tickets on sale so be quick to grab one and secure your place on the afternoon of Saturday December 12th – we look forward to seeing you there!

Workshop for Bloggers

What to expect at this event?

This is a friendly and knowledge-oriented workshop with a diverse crowd of bloggers and influencers in attendance. Everyone is welcome whether you write about Crafts and DIY to Food and Health, Travel, Family Life, Fashion and Beauty, Slow Living, or Lifestyle. You are usually an engaged group of content-makers who have been blogging for at least a year.

Every year, we invite three inspiring and experienced speakers from the community to share successes and challenges from their blogging journey in a structured talk (30 mins): they will let you in on a wealth of tips and strategies they have learned over the years and give you practical tips to take your blog further. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask them your questions and share your own experiences after each presentation in a Q&A (15 min).

What is the theme and who is speaking?

This December, we are excited to tackle Content Strategy for the social media pages around your blog: how to leverage your existing content to increase your reach and readership smartly on Instagram, Steller, YouTube and Podcasts; how to create complementary content for these networks and how to build or leverage their engaged communities to find new readers and lead them back to your blog. Meet our 2015 speakers and the topics of their talks:

Is it only about learning?

No, we will also be holding a networking session on the day so you get the chance to meet and connect with other talented bloggers so do come prepared with a stack of business cards. There will be plenty of drinks and nibbles to keep us sustained through the afternoon thanks to the organic teas and juices of Little Miracles and the healthier baked doughnuts of Dum Dum Donutterie; and finally, we will we do a Christmas Card Swap at the end of the event. We have picked some lovely card designs and you will be leaving on the day with a blogger pal to secretly send good wishes to during the holiday season.

Are you excited yet? You should be.

We only organise the workshop once a year and it really is a great opportunity to take things offline and learn, engage and mingle with fellow creatives so don’t miss out and secure your place today. We can guarantee that you will leave the workshop feeling incredibly inspired and more committed to your blog than ever. Give us a shout-out on Twitter with the hashtag #NNworkshop when you have your tickets so we can high-five you. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
